HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) is a polystyrene-based polymer enhanced with rubber additives to improve its impact resistance. It is widely recognised as an excellent support material for ABS and ASA prints, as it can be easily dissolved in d-Limonene, allowing for the creation of complex geometries without leaving marks from manual support removal. Beyond its use as a support, HIPS is a durable, lightweight, and dimensionally stable material suitable for standalone use in prototyping, casings, and general-purpose mechanical parts. It is food-safe and easy to machine, paint, or glue. While it exhibits warping similar to ABS, this can be mitigated by using a heated bed and an enclosed printing environment.
